Item Description

The extinct copper open pit Miguel Vacas Mine is well-known for excellent libethenite and other secondary copper phosphates (MINDAT). Sparkly, gemmy, coated and uncoated olive-green orthorhombic libethenite microcrystals are richly strewn on the interestingly layered, sculptural large matrix. We have not seen a larger example for sale, and this is richly covered in a rare mineral from a rare locale. It is from the Portuguese suite of the Dr. Vasco Trancoso Collection, in Lisbon. He is a prominent Portugal collector and doctor near Lisbon. He collected for 60 years and built a fine worldwide display collection, that we recently purchased in Europe. Rich and highly representative large example of the species and locale.
