Item Description

Inderite, a rare hydrated Mg-borate evaporite mineral is certainly one of the more exotic species found at the famous Boron open pit. The world's finest examples come from here and this is VERY RARE, rich and exceptional large piece. A fantastic dense jackstraw bundle of transparent to white tabular prisms comprises this impressive specimen. The crystals reach about 6.0 cm on this striking piece and crystals reached 20.0 cm from here. This specimen undoubtedly dates to the 1960s or 70s, when Boron pit species were fairly plentiful. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. It has been suggested, that the white film may be removed by a brief gentle washing with room temperature water. See: https://www.mindat.org/a/best_inderite. Proceed very cautiously! An outstanding, very seldom available large inderite from this well-known locale. A MUST for the species or locality collector - world class for this rare borate and valued at several thousand dollars, one would think, as a minimum.
