Item Description

The famous Huayllapon Mine at Pasto Bueno is generally considered to have produced the world's finest hubnerite specimens and well as world-class rhodochrosite. This impressive large combination is beautifully highlighted by the very aesthetically placed parallel-growth cluster of three classic tabular hubnerite crystals. The splendent, well-striated frontal crystal is 4.5 cm long and all the crystals have typical flat-topped terminations. The hubnerites are set on a dramatic large matrix of opposing glassy and lustrous, translucent to transparent quartz crystals. The two striking large parallel-growth quartz crystals with chisel terminations reach 8.3 cm, very large for the locale. Formerly in the collection of Kirby Siber, a member of the well-known Swiss mineral and fossil dealership, Siber+Siber (1970s). This exceptional large combination came out during the height of the hubnerite and rhodochrosite production at the Huayllapon Mine. Mass is 1834 grams or 4 pounds. Ex. Kurt Hefendehl collection.
