large Hematite (old classic!)

This item is part of a special benefit auction for the Rice Museum of Rocks & Minerals (ricenorthwestmuseum.org). Items are either deaccessions from the museum's collection or were donated by generous supporters listed below.

A significant example of the old time botryoidal hematite, famous specimens from this historic district since the 1800s. It is in remarkably good condition, as you can see, and displays well for any sophisticated collection of minerals. Rarely do we get the old English classics in this size and condition! See accompanying letter for information: It is from the collection of Los Angeles-based dealer and collector Leonard Bourget, from the mid-1900s, but may date back further yet as these are a style typical of the English iron fields. Donated by Evan and Melissa Jones for the benefit of the Rice Museum. Weight on this is 12.8 pounds!
