Item Description
A RARE, HUGE and dramatic large hematite feather from Iron County. "Feathers" are very rare from any of the numerous iron mines of the county and this is a truly exceptional large example. This remarkably sculptural, ribbed hematite has bright metallic luster to add to the mahogany-brown color. Both ends are contacted, with only part of the fat end having a bit of bruising. The Hiawatha No. 1 began operations in 1893 and the mines in the Group operated in part until 1967. Specimens are, in general, very uncommon from the Hiawatha Group and impressive large "feathers", such as this are truly RARE. Valued $2500-or more. One rarely sees these so large and well preserved.
