large Goshenite Beryl (old classic)

Wow! The textbook hexagonal crystal is fantastically glassy and lustrous; a RARE, large and stout goshenite (colorless) beryl crystal from an unknown pegmatite in the Minas Gerais gem district. The upper half of the dramatic crystal is quite gemmy with interior veils, while the lower half is translucent. Ex Bill Larson Beryl Crystal Collection and long on display at his Fallbrook shop. Impressive mass is 2.0 pounds or 905 grams. BETTER in person. The extreme glassiness, luster, gemminess to translucency made it HARD to photograph correctly. This is a CLASSIC, OLD-TIMER from the 1970s or 1980s. VERY SELDOM on the market in this size, quality and varietal. It was obtained back in the 1970s by Peter Bancroft and Dave Wilber when they worked for Larson's company and built a beryl collection in the lobby. It is huge, sparkly, and clear - the colorless form of beryl. Actually, goshenite is for some reason more rare in nature than its blue cousin aquamarine, pink cousin morganite, or green cousin emerald.
