Large Gold specimen ( Phillips Coll.)

Item Description

Two "nests" of bright gold are attractively set on massive large green andesite matrix on this showy specimen from this old gold mining district. The 2.5 cm larger nest hosts striking artistically arranged sharp leaves or flakes. Open-pit mining from 1997 until 2001 recovered about 1100 specimens before the pits were idled (Moore's Compendium of Mineral Discoveries, 2016). Specimens of this size are rare. Although it is a big piece with small zones of gold, that also makes it a rarely affordable large piece from this limited find. Ex Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection.
