Large gem Moldavite (33.98 carats)

A beautiful large gem rich forest-green, 33.98 carat, cushion cut moldavite from the Czech Republic. Moldavite is a variety of Tektite, a natural glass formed from a meteorite impact melting the local rock, thrown up into the air and coming down as molten globs causing the intense furrowing usually seen in uncut specimens. Moldavites are named after the main occurrence at the Moldau river in Southern Bohemia and originated due to the impact of a meteorite in Bavaria, Germany 15 MM years ago. Nearly all specimens come from the Czech Republic. Moldavites are seldom faceted and are usually left in their striking original form or used for carving. This is a large gem for the material with very few inclusions (although it has some minute spots inside,as many do). Outstanding large cut gem moldavite. Mass is 33.98 carats or over 6 grams.
