Item Description
Exceptionally large, excellent and very rare fluorite from this most obscure small North Yorkshire fluorite mine. Specimens, in general, are very uncommon. Densely intergrown color-zoned cubes, to 3.6 cm, cover this sculptural and aesthetic curved plate. The translucent cubes have inky-blue interiors with striking purple edge phantoms and frosted, matte-lustre faces. The underlying matrix is tan to colorless granular fluorite. The cubes have a strong resemblance to famous "Blanchard blue" fluorites from the Blanchard Mine in New Mexico. Essentially pristine. Interestingly, no fluorescence. The noted periphery wear is certainly acceptable in the context of the important and rare large specimen. Ex Dr. Stephen Moreton Collection and illustrated in the locality Photo Gallery with a September, 2018 photo by Dr. Moreton. Fairly valued at $1500-2000 for size, quality and rarity.Just a minor point: Elbolton may be obscure - Unfortunately the landowner is not too receptive to collectors.
