Item Description
A now-rare and desirable California classic. this is a large, sharp Colemanite crystal. It is a fine old-timer from the Mullane Collection and the Corkscrew Mine of Death Valley. Two sharp faces are totally covered with an overgrowth of tiny, sparkly colemanite crystals or another borate (meyerhofferite?), creatign contrast like a drapery, hanging over to the other sharp faces. An adjacent face is extremely glassy and partially transparent (the frontal view in my book). The base of the pyramidal-looking crystal is complexly crystallized in a number of faces, possibly contacted; but is terminated. The back is pristine and has multiple faces. This fine, floater specimen is older material from the 1960s-70s .
