Item Description

This is a spectacular large, unusually thick and bright example of classic old Tiger's Eye from South Africa, that Jack purchased in a rock shop decades ago. I normally ignore these things, but this one is actually GOOD, a real specimen! I have ogled it and liked it in Jack's mineral collection since the 1990s. This is a pseudomorph, according to new science and to Wikipedia , that defines this material as: a very popular gemstone that displays a chatoyancy (cat's-eye) when a polished stone is moved back and forth in incident light. It is a quartz gemstone, usually amber to brown in color, that forms when fibers of the mineral crocidolite are replaced by silica. So, it is a replacement , a true ineral pseudomorph, of the fibrous crocidolites by Quartz (silica). ex Jack Halpern Collection. 1705 grams!
