The Fano Mine is the best known pegmatite in Riverside County and is well-known for excellent schorl and aquamarine specimens. Discovered in 1902, this impressive large RARE doubly terminated schorl was collected in 1982. The highly lustrous jet-black trigonal crystal is very well striated. The single offset pyramidal termination at the top is contrasted by the multiple parallel-growth pyramidal terminations at the base. The pristine side car schorl at the base adds much character. Complete all-around. Contacting where other crystals once lay, have little damage and one repair are noted. These are certainly acceptable in the context of pegmatite species.
