Item Description

The Fano Mine is the best known pegmatite in Riverside County and is well-known for excellent schorl and aquamarine specimens. Discovered in 1902, this impressive large RARE doubly terminated schorl was collected in 1982. The highly lustrous jet-black trigonal crystal is very well striated. The single offset pyramidal termination at the top is contrasted by the multiple parallel-growth pyramidal terminations at the base. The pristine side car schorl at the base adds much character. Complete all-around. Contacting where other crystals once lay, have little damage and one repair are noted. These are certainly acceptable in the context of pegmatite species. See the 2002 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 33, No. 5. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. An excellent and RARE doubly terminated schorl from the Fano Mine. Seldom available and certainly desirable.
