Item Description

A striking, very rare cabinet quartz specimen from Mariposa County, California. This giant crystal is a complete all-around, doubly terminated floater. Most of the crystal faces are lustrous and frosted, BUT the nifty side car crystal is gemmy, transparent, as is the prism face the side car is attached to. The crystal is actually transparent. Iron oxides add character, as do the two strikingly different terminations. A bit of side wear (out-of-sight on the back) and a bit of termination edge wear is noted, but have no impact to the importance of this piece. RARE quartz from the Mother Lode of Mariposa County. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection. Acquired in 1969, it was collected by William Kirk and purchased from him at the Sierra Rock Shop at Cathey's Valley, according to his label. A must for the locality or species collector. BETTER IN PERSON.
