Item Description
An impressive and classic large doubly terminated calcite crystal from the famous specimen Mining project here by joe and mark kielbaso in the late 1980s. The striking, sharp, lustrous, mottled gray and white crystal is mostly opaque, but a couple areas of translucence are visible. The attached matrix on both sides, with smaller calcite crystals, some coated with sparkly iridescent chalcopyrite and marcasite adds dramatic flair to this imposing crystal. The crystal may be twinned, as there is a possible twinning plane at the top of the crystal. Both terminations are gently cleaved, perhaps in situ. Pristine, this would be a $600-800 specimen, but remains a fine large and highly representative calcite from the locale. Ex Ted Bartels Collection.
