large DT bi-colored Tourmaline (New Find)

Item Description

An impressive large tourmaline from a New Find near the famous Golconda pegmatites. The 5.2 cm crystal strikingly embedded near the complex multiple termination dramatically adds character to the sculptural tapered large parallel-growth doubly terminated crystal. The large, highly lustrous, well-striated crystal appears to be a dark teal-green in bright light with the smaller crystal showing subtle watermelon color. Back-lighting really shows the true nature of this beauty. The basal termination of the large crystal is matte-luster black schorl with a 4.5 cm pink watermelon core above. The body is a beautiful, gemmy/translucent, rich teal-blue and the termination is teal-green. The 5.2 cm tourmaline has a watermelon-pink core for most of its length with a 3 mm matte luster schorl pinacoidal termination. Complete all-around and in great shape, overall. The large crystal termination is pristine. You barely notice the bruise to the large crystal where the side of the smaller tourmaline is set into it. Broken tips to side car crystals near the base of the large crystal are mostly out-of-sight on the back of the crystal. The large crystal has 4 clean repairs and the small crystal has one clean repair, which is certainly acceptable in the context of pegmatite species, especially large tourmalines, such as this. 166 grams mass. A significant and very fine large doubly terminated tourmaline from the new find.
