Item Description
RARE, important and large calcite from Cornwall. This most impressive and sculptural two-sided specimen is composed of dramatic stacked clusters of sharp, glassy, translucent, light gray nailhead calcite rhombs. The striking large monolith on the side is 8.5 cm and the dominating central column on the center of the mound is about 6.0 cm. Complete all-around and nearly pristine. The interior is pristine, as is one side. Basal periphery wear on the other side is noted, but has negligible impact to the overall outstanding quality of this rare large calcite. Pretty pink fluorescence. We acquired this in a collection, with no label beyond "cornwall" and are uncertain of the precise locale. We've shown this to respected Cornwall collectors and dealers and the Cornwall attribution is highly probable. Possibly from the modern Greystones Quarry, Lezant. 6.4 pounds or 2.9 kilos mass. Value of such a fine large Corwall rarity?? We estimate at $1800-2000.
