Item Description

An impressive large old-time flattened floater specimen of crystallized copper from Copper Country. The piece is composed of euhedral and subhedral copper crystals and massive copper with brown coppery patina and overall striking arborescent spinel-twinned form. The sharp crystal at one end is a 2.8 cm tetrahexahedron with other large crystals having a spinel-twinned form. One striking view shows a runner with a well-formed head (sharp crystal), tucked in arms and in mid-leap with outstretched legs. The other view looks like a bifurcated tree or shrub. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 3855 and acquired from Burton Jirgl, an itinerant mineral dealer, who passed away in 1986. Read his biography in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive at: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=822. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Classic and artistic large old-time Michigan copper.
