Large Color-zoned Fluorite w/ Quartz (New Find)

Item Description

A striking, sculptural and rich large two-sided combination plate. Stunning dark purple edge phantoms dramatically outline the starkly contrasting pretty light mint-green translucent fluorite cubes with satin lustre faces. The cubes are densely clustered on the drusy quartz-covered matrix, with the isolated large cube on the lower right being 2.1 cm across. The cubes spill over the crest in interesting different sizes. The back side is festooned with fluorite cubes with a drusy overgrowth. This is an outstanding example from a New Find at this well-known antimony-gold mine, which we cherrypicked when I was in China in June. Specimens of this unique style have trickled out from the mine over the last 10 years, but never in any quantity or size like this, until this one pocket. Pristine, except for a lightly cleaved corner on a central mint-green cube and acceptable periphery wear on one edge. Bright purple fluorescence. A choice large two-sided example from the small lot we just received.
