Item Description

Feathery clusters of tabular, glassy, lustrous, clear to white, colemanite crystals with spike terminations completely line the impressive, large, elongated vug. Scattered clusters of rich yellow, botryoidal calcite are a fine contrast and typical accessory. This sculptural and rich combination is from the famous Rio Tinto Borax Mine (formerly U.S. Borax Mine). The calcite fluoresces yellow under LW UV light. Comes with a custom-made backed clay base. The mass of the specimen and clay base is 1424 grams or 3.1 pounds. Ex George Loud Collection Nos. 25.1.9 CA.6 and 5051, a well-known Washington, DC and South Carolina mineral collector. See: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/biographies_labels/george-loud for more information on George. Classic, very showy and excellent large combination material from the noted locale. These were primarily collected in the 1950s-1970s by Jim Minette.
