Item Description
Fantastic, VERY RARE large celestine crystal from a most obscure Texas locale - Zephyr in Brown County. The dramatic, large parallel-growth, 360-degree, cream-colored crystal is lustrous, translucent and glassy. Multiple sidecar crystals add a captivating visual aspect to the piece. Many of the sidecar crystals have typical and complementary spearpoint terminations. The noted bruising to the termination area and to scattered sidecar crystals have minimal impact to the overall outstanding quality of this exceptional large Texas rarity. Zephyr is a small town with about 200 residents 12 miles east of Brownwood. Texas is well-known as a mineral wasteland, excepting the Llano Uplift, Terlingua, exotic species from salt domes, scattered pyrite localities and a few celestine localities. 584 grams or 1.3 pounds. Formerly in the Joe Lobell Collection, a well-known retired dealer and prominent field collector of Texas and Oklahoma material. Ex Al Kidwell Collection and acquired in 1991, from Joe, according to his label. From the worldwide mineral collection of Al Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. Value?? Hard say, as we have never seen another Brown County celestine of this size and quality. A MUST for the species or locality collector!
