Impressive and sculptural large old-time (circa 1870) cast iron urn with a fine patina from Bohemia, Czech Republic. Raised depictions of mining scenes all around the sides plus leaves or petals on the lid highlight the urn. Well made, this is undoubtedly a highgrade mining presentation or award object. There is some ancient chipping to the rim of the lid. 4249 grams or 9.4 pounds mass. Ex Herb Obodda Collection Nr. 111, a very well-known East Coast USA dealer and collector. A significant large example of old-time Czech mining memorabilia. This is from the personal collection of Obodda, which was surely one of the most important collections of our century focusing on the German classics and related mining memorabilia! Value? Hard to say, old-time mining related pieces like this are so rarely on the market. Obodda himself valued it at $3500, in 2010.
