large California Inesite ex. Ordway & Groben collections

Item Description

A rare larger specimen of the classic inesite from Northern California most of which were found between the 1950s-1970s and featuring a remarkable pocket with crystals to 2 cm in length. The fat, 3-dimensional nature of these crystals exhibits stereotypical textbook form, as opposed to inesite from most worldwide locations which occurs as merely flattened blades and lathe-shaped crystals instead. Large display quality pieces like this, with such isolated crystals, are uncommon. The cross of crystals in front is approximately 1.5 cm. Exchanged from the Mike Groben collection (label on back), by legendary field collector Al Ordway, this was then in Al's collection until the end. It is very rare to see anything of this size and quality from those days. Groben's label remains painted onto the back of the specimen. I obtained it from Ordway.
