Large Calcite w/ hematite phantoms (Zerfass Coll.)

An impressive large and aesthetic calcite crystal cluster from recent Chinese finds. The striking large, lustrous and translucent, gray nailhead scalenohedrons, to 11.8 cm, have dramatically overgrown an earlier generation of sharp, two-toned, hematite-included scalenohedrons! This outstanding large 360-degree piece is complete all-around and nearly pristine. A trivial bit of scuffing and basal periphery wear are noted, but certainly has only minimal impact to the high quality of this fine specimen. The Paul Zerfass Collection label # 796 says the famous Xianghualing Mine, but this piece is undoubtedly from the nearby Leiping Mine. 5.7 pounds or 2.6 kilos mass.
