Item Description
A RARE, impressive large twinned calcite crystal from the historic mines at Guanajuato. The sculptural two-sided glassy, translucent tabular crystal with satin lustre faces has a clearly visible twinning plane at the crest on both sides, as seen on the top view. Both sides have surreal well-developed incised stepped-growth faces that remind me of a classic M.C. Escher print! The top line and both sides are pristine, with both ends being cleaved. These have negligible impact to the overall unique high quality of this calcite. Bright pink fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5301 and acquired from the Bourget Brothers in the late 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Rare, perhaps unique large twinned calcite from Guanajuato.
