large Calcite (rare style - fluorescent)

An impressive, stout, 8.5 x 6.3 x 2.3 cm, tabular hexagonal "poker chip" calcite crystal dominates this sculptural large cluster of RARE style intergrown crystals from one of the many calcite producing mines in Daye County. Calcites from Daye County are mostly scalenohedrons or rhombohedrons. The crystals are very interesting, with lustrous, frosted milky-white C-axis faces and striking glassy, gemmy prism faces. The bit of matrix at the base adds character to this fine large and rare style calcite. Rich pink fluorescence. I should note that at the time these were reputed to be from Daye, but that could simply have been where the pocket was brought to sell, and I suspect they are from Guangdong perhaps, instead. An outstanding large calcite of this style with a very large poker chip crystal. They have a striking resemblance to classic poker chip calcites from Charcas, San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
