large Calcite (rare locale)

Item Description

Surreal and fantastic large cave calcite formation from an obscure French locale. This otherworldly piece resembles the head of a crocodile or Cretaceous Mosasaur dinosaur! Spiky lemon-cream calcite stalactites are the dramatic "teeth" in the mouth and are framed by the boxwork calcite matrix, upper and lower "jaws". The "teeth" are up to 4.2 cm long. The calcite is attached to a limestone matrix. Bright yellowish-white LW UV fluorescence. 3019 grams or 6.6 pounds mass. Ex Paul Zerfass Collection, and self collected by him in the 1990s or before. He is a well-known French collector and field collector. A remarkable, unique looking and RARE large example from the obscure locale. Very cool display item, either on its side or standing vertically! Never seen another like this!
