Large Calcite (rare, from KOREA! )

Item Description

Mineral specimens of any species are RARE from Gangwon Province, South Korea, near the 38th Parallel border with North Korea and calcite is EXTREMELY RARE. MINDAT lists 9 calcites localities, but there are NO examples in the Gallery. This is an ultra dramatic and sculptural large 360-degree plate of impressive large prisms with pinacoidal terminations. The stunning large doubly terminated crystal is 8.1 cm across. The crystals have glassy translucent prism faces with unusual matte frosted terminations. A striking, essentially pristine specimen, except for the acceptable periphery wear. Incredibly exotic and RARE older material collected in the 1950s. Interestingly, the matte terminations do not fluoresce, while the glassy prism bodies fluoresce hot pink. Previously in the Scott Williams and Bob Trimmingham Collection # 15509.
