An outstanding and impressive large old-time calcite specimen from the famous Stank Mine. These are called "pincushions", due to their obvious form. Glassy, limpid, colorless, nail-head spar calcite crystals of different sizes and variable amounts of light hematite tinting totally cover this impressive plate. The crystals reach about 4.5 cm and every turn presents an entirely different perspective to this fine old-time piece. This iron mine was active from 1871-1901. Classic and excellent Cumbria calcite. Comes with a custom-made and engraved lucite base valued at $195, for free. Ex Dr. Ed David Collection. Ed was Science Advisor to President Nixon and has assembled several world-class mineral collections. Fairly valued at $3000 for size and quality.
