Item Description

Classic gem, water-clear colorless, modified nailhead calcite prisms PLUS patches of desirable hematite-tinted prisms are festooned on the large undulating 3-dimensional ironstone matrix. This is an outstanding and rich calcite from this famous old Cumbria iron mine, that operated from 1874 to 1914. The Pallaflat Mine was renowned for exceptional calcite specimens and this impressive piece certainly qualifies. The crystals reach 1.9 cm on this striking piece. Complete all-around and in great shape overall. It's hard to see the few bruised crystals in the interior, for all of the crystal density and the bit of basal periphery wear is certainly only a minimal detraction.
