Item Description
A dramatic and major large 360-degree calcite from the famous Denton Mine. The sculpturally angled large scalenohedron has a fantastically alligator hide-like secondary overgrowth of very glassy, highly lustrous, light amber stepped-growth scalenohedrons. The broken base reveals the gemmy, darker amber scalenohedron with striking interior phantoms of tiny chalcopyrite crystals! Complete all-around and actually in great shape. A few of the crystals along the ridge crest have bruised tips, with the highest crystal having a gently cleaved tip. Amazingly, for such large crystal, there is only one tiny spot of side wear. The basal periphery wear on one end is noted. These certainly have only minimal impact to the overall very high quality of this large Denton Mine calcite. Ex Ross Lillie Collection # 0586. Found by geologist Eric Livingston in June, 1980 about 150 feet from the shaft. Ross' type written note states: "One of the first large calcites to occur: an exciting day at the office." MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!
