Layers of glassy and gemmy opal cover an indurated sandstone in this classic matrix example of a natural opal deposit. The spectacular rainbow of colors are bright and vary from neon green, blue, pink and orange to blue-whites. The striking red sandstone matrix, sawed on the back, shows geological processes at work. This is beautiful cross-bedded aeolian or braided stream sandstone. This striking, large and colorful piece weighs 939 grams and was priced at the Denver show in a trade to us.Valued $2500
