large botryoidal "grape" Amethyst

Impressive size with fine color on this sculptural curved 3-dimensional two-sided crust of solid botryoidal "grape" amethyst from recent finds in Indonesia. Moderately lustrous, translucent rich lavender botryoids accented with contrasting light gray botryoids comprise this showy large specimen. The interiors on both sides are pristine. The two attachments along opposite edges are noted, but certainly have minimal impact to the overall high quality and richness of this imposing large two-sided piece. These caused a major stir at recent shows and are certainly beautiful, colorful and artistically fine specimens. Botryoidal amethyst is quite rare worldwide. Analysis by Dr. George Rossman at Caltech concluded these should be labeled as amethyst, and not chalcedony or agate. An artistic and highly representative large cabinet example.
