Item Description

Beryl crystals of this impressive large size are rare from the well-known pegmatites around Buckfield, Maine. The 9.2 x 7.0 x 5.8 cm, textbook, hexagonal crystal is lustrous, translucent at the corners and is yellowish-green. There is a partial double termination section, but most of the lower part of the crystal is contacted against the granular quartz and feldspar of the pegmatite. A termination edge and side are dinged, but is mostly out-of-sight in the preferred display view. Dramatic, large and rare beryl for the locale. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection, formerly in the Lee Areson Collection of New York State, according to his label. Valued $1500-2000
