large Beryl (RARE Connecticut!)

Item Description

SIGNIFICANT and rare large beryl crystal from the Case Quarries of Connecticut. The impressive, sharp, textbook, hexagonal, opaque crystal is highlighted by the fine, variegated green-blue color with good luster. Complete all-around. The crystal is complemented with embedded garnet sections and feldspar at the base and muscovite on the termination. Termination and basal periphery edge wear are noted, but have minimal impact to the overall importance and quality of this large beryl crystal. Three pegmatites were quarried for feldspar and sheet mica in the 1930s and 40s and were also core drilled for possible beryl production. A fourth pegmatite was discovered 1983 among the other three and was rich in beryl, including large crystals to 22 kilograms. Hard to say, they are so rarely on the market.
