Item Description
This large, impressive, symmetrical, hexagonal beryl crystal has pretty layered powder-blue color with high luster and partial translucence. Large, sharp beryl crystals from this less well-known Oxford County pegmatite field feldspar quarry are rare. The Bumpus Quarry is noted for its large volume of massive rose quartz, and giant crystals of beryl found there - up to 11 meters long by 1.5 meter in diameter! This is an exceptional, large, complete-all-around crystal. The upper end is a contact and the lower end is broken. Three repairs are noted, which is certainly acceptable in the context of pegmatite species. An outstanding large and colorful Maine beryl from the Robert Whitmore Collection and collected in 1985. Mass is 569 grams or 1.25 pounds.
