Item Description
Mineral specimens of ANY type are VERY RARE from this obscure Dona Ana County locale. Mineralization is in veins in a brecciated rhyolite sill of Tertiary age, intruded along the bedding contact of limestone and shale (MINDAT). This is a striking and rare large specimen of dramatically intergrown, jackstraw-style clusters of parallel-growth barite blades and individual barite crystals. The lustrous and translucent textbook spearpoints reach a large 9.3 cm in the prominent large cluster. The iron oxide tinting on some of the crystals adds real color and contrast. This is an impressive, large and RARE 360-degree piece from this locale. Complete all-around and in great shape. The interior is pristine and the modest periphery wear is confined mostly to one end. Ex Tom Hales Collection and collected in 1996. RARE and highly desirable large New Mexico barite. A MUST for the species or locality collector!!
