Item Description
Impressive and scuptural large old-time barite from the famous iron mines at Frizington. Dramatically intergrown, sharp, stout, graduated in size, parellel-growth crystals comprise this very artistic 3-sided piece. The very glassy, gemmy to translucent crystals are a rich golden-yellow on one side, mottled on the end and are distinctively different on the other side, having rust-red iron oxide inclusions. VERY INTERESTING chemistry on this piece! Yes, there is a cleaved crystal on one end, but this remains a very substantial and excellent large barite from this renowned locale. Certainly over 100 years old, but no proof. Valued at $2000-2500 for striking beauty, size, form and quality. It GLOWS, when back lit.
