Item Description
A spectacular and important large barite crystal cluster from the famous old iron mines at Frizington, source of some of the world's finest barites. Dramatically intergrown, graduated in size, parallel-growth, lustrous, translucent, grayish-green blades have striking textbook chisel terminations. This stunning and fabulous 360-degree piece is from the less well-known Parkside Mine and is easily 100 to 150-years old. It has produced world-class barite specimens. Complete all-around, it looks and displays like a super large $20,000 specimen on the shelf. A damaged area on the BACK side of the termination of the large blade prevents it from having this price. Fairly valued at $5000 at least - for superlative form, size, color and quality. From an East Coast collection and comes with a faded century-old label. With a base, mounted vertically, this imposing specimen will look as good on a shelf as some I have seen in the British Museum and major collections. No damage to front display face, despite the size!
