Item Description

Impressive, large, two-sided, flattened Azurite "sun" from recent finds at the Malbunka Copper Mine. The front is sharply crystallized with a rich blue interior surrounded by a lighter royal-blue rim. The striking radial growth of the azurite crystals on the front reminds me of the famous stone Aztec calendar of Mexico. The back has a different look with nubby radial azurite crystals. This disk was removed from the kaolinized siltstone matrix. The Azurite suns form between layers of Kaolinite, and were forced to grow in a laterally compressed, radiating manner. Even with the broken edge, this is a striking and colorful large two-sided azurite from the locale. Not another azurite locality in the world produces them quite like this. While classics, and mined each year currently, this is a artful, large, two-sided, colorful specimen.
