Item Description
A dramatic spray of large, elongated, glassy and translucent, aragonite spikes form a most impressive old-time specimen from the famous iron mines of the Cleator Moor area of Cumbria. The platy hematite at the base adds real pizzazz to this striking large 360-degree combination specimen. Some of the striking spikes are easily over 10 cm long. Mineral specimens are MUCH LESS common from Cleator Moor compared to the Frizington, Egremont or Bigrigg areas and large aragonite specimens, such as this are RARE. Scattered cleaved tips and broken crystals certainly have only minimal impact to this imposing old-timer, that is certainly over 100 years old. Fairly valued at $1250-1500 for size, rarity and quality. OLD collection material, and probably from the mid to late 1800s!
