Unusual and old style: Stunning large, textbook hexagonal, two-toned blue-green beryl crystal from one of the pegmatites in the well-known Governador Valadares area of Minas Gerais. This is a classic color hue from very old finds, 1920s-1960s. The lower 8.7 cm of the glassy and lustrous crystal is a translucent pastel-green with the termination being a beautiful gemmy light green. Complete all-around and pristine. Clay inclusions in the lower section and a few veils in the gem termination add character. 993 grams or 2.2 pounds mass. Ex Bill Larson Beryl Collection. Bill is a famous California mine owner of the Himalaya Mine among others; and mineral collector and dealer and gemologist. Long on display at his Fallbrook shop, this has been in the flagship beryl educational collection they built in the 1970s and later. Remarkable and uncommonly colored large beryl from the famous locale. It was purchased in Brazil by the late Peter Bancroft, author of Gem & Crystal Treasures, for the Pala collection in the 1970s. It would date to a time prior to that, and has been in the collection now for nearly 50 years! Valued $5000-10,000.
