Item Description

A large, classic and excellent old-time apatite specimen from this well-known county in the famous Bancroft area of Ontario. The lustrous, sharp, textbook hexagonal crystal has an interesting offset modified pinacoidal termination and mottled rust-brown color. Complete all-around. Part of the back side is contacted, but is mostly out-of-sight in the primary display views. Renfrew County is famous for apatite crystals. One locality, Turner's Island Mine, is one of Ontario's most famous mineral localities and was internationally known in the nineteenth century (MINDAT). It produced a 700 pound apatite crystal and a zircon 1 foot in diameter. Classic and excellent large material.
