Item Description
Gorgeous colors and complex crystallization on this beautiful large ammonite from Madagascar. The species is Cleoniceras and the fossil dates to the Late Early Cretaceous Period, about 100 million years ago. The fossil has been cut in half and polished to show the fantastic interior and exterior structures and colors. The dramatic interior chambers are completely visible. Some are filled with colorful vari-colored calcite or clay while others are hollow and lined with oxide-tinted drusy dogtooth calcite. The exterior shows the amazingly convoluted suture patterns. They look like Modern Art! A very fine large pair.
