Item Description
Ametrine, a variety of quartz is famous and desirable from this well-known Bolivian locale. Ametrine crystals are made of alternating sectors of purple and yellow to orange color. The purple sectors are made of amethyst, while the yellow or orange sectors are not made of citrine, because they are colored by inclusions of iron compounds and would more properly called ferruginous quartz (MINDAT). Irregardles, these are fantastically colored, impressive and highly desirable specimens from the locale. The crystal GLOWS with yellow color when back lit! And yellow color is visible under bright light. This dramatic large crystal has very interesting form. Most of the frosted termination faces are sharp and lustrous, while the prism faces are fantastically etched! Strange chemistry here! Complete all-around and pristine. This also crystal has a RARE C-axis pinacoidal termination, adding even more pizzazz! One side of the crystal is contacted, where another crystal once lay, but there is no damage, per se. A fine large rarity from an East Coast collection. Old piece from ten years ago, of a style hard to find now. Valued $1000-1250
