Highly lustrous rust-red hematite is richly included in this most impressive, LARGE for the locale, compound terminated amethyst crystal from famous Thunder Bay. The multiple sharp stepped-growth terminations, side car crystal and red-on-deep purple are very appealing on this stunning large 360-degree specimen. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only trivial side wear. Contacting lower on the sides is certainly acceptable in the context of such a large piece. Ex Al Kidwell Collection. Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974.
