Item Description

Mineral specimens from this huge open pit iron mine are very uncommon and well-formed, first-class large amethyst specimens are VERY RARE. This is an impressive large mounded plate of gemmy and glassy amethyst crystals covering a hematite core. The scintillating terminated crystals are a very pretty purple and many crystals are enhanced by striking preferential hematite coatings. A very shapely 360-degree specimen, pristine except for the contact at one end. The piece has three fine display views. Outstanding and rare large amethyst from the locale and the Robert Nowakowski Collection. MUCH BETTER than the photos show, as the purple color is much richer in person. The high luster, glassiness and gemminess made photography difficult. A MUST for the locality or species collector.
