Item Description
Striking variable purple, gemmy to translucent, glassy and lustrous intergrown amethyst crystals form an impressive and sculptural large mounded specimen from Due West, South Carolina. The dominating large crystal in the center front is 6.3 cm long and is partially contacted, with no damage, per se. Periphery wear is noted on the right base, the right side of the piece is contacted and one bruised termination is noted on the topline. Some of the finest Eastern USA amethysts have come from Due West and this is a rich and dramatic large example. Mass is 1566 grams or 3.4 pounds. See the 1990 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 21, No. 3. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired from DeTrin Minerals (Daniel Trinchillo) in 1998. Valued at $1500-2000. Rarely available in this size and richness.
