large Amethyst (California)

Item Description

Impressive and sculptural large 360-degree rich pincushion cluster of lustrous, gemmy amethyst crystals set on quartz matrix from the well-known Kingston Range of California. The crystals reach 5.0 cm. The crystals have pretty grape-purple color nicely accented with slightly darker terminations. Some of the glassy stepped-growth crystals have striking chevron-shaped phantoms, enhancing the piece. Complete all-around and in great shape, overall. It's hard to see the one broken crystal in the interior of the piece and the periphery wear is certainly acceptable in the context of this large specimen. This is a remarkable large California amethyst of this quality from this locality. It is nearly certain that Bob Reynolds self-collected it himself on one of his many trips here, and specimens of this quality are very rare.
