Item Description

A remarkable, large and rare 4 pound solid amazonite crystal from this less well-known Minas Gerais pegmatite mine, which has given us few truly fine crystals but has ironically produced enormous masses of rough material for the lapidary and carving trade. Stiking , rich blue-green color characterizes this sharply formed, moderately lustrous crystal. The impressive sloped termination face is striking. Complete all-around and esssentially pristine: Some contacting on the sides, with embedded quartz, has little actual damage. Amazonite is actually fairly rare from the innumerable pegmatites of Brazil. Amazonite from this locale resembles classic Colorado material and specimens from recent finds in Ethiopia.
