A HUGE and RARE for the locale 5.0 cm complete all-around and pristine almandine garnet crystal is dramatically perched atop the silvery micaceous matrix wedge. The lustrous textbook dodecahedron beveled by trapezohedral faces is a classic deep wine-red. The numerous striking lighter wine-red veinlets GLOW with cherry color, when brightly lit! This exceptional New Hampshire rarity is from the famous Palermo Mine. The pegmatite was first worked for mica in the 1800s and has been intermittently worked since. There is no telling when this amazing piece was collected. The pegmatite is especially well-known for rare phosphates. Ex Richard Hottel and Wouter van Tichelen collections.
